Unknown User's Intergalactic Dice

A UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is a 128-bit identification code used in computer systems to distinguish information. Every action we perform through digital devices can be tagged by a UUID. There are 2^128 possible combinations—an astronomically vast number, as countless as the stars in the sky. Even at the end of the universe, the probability of two identical UUIDs appearing is virtually zero. Each exists independently, without any central authority or relational structure—a constellation of isolated identities.

This is the boundless starfield humanity has built through computation, composed of trillions of UUIDs. From afar, it appears chaotic, random, incomprehensible. Yet through imagination we draw invisible lines among them, creating constellations of meaning. A meme sent last week. An online purchase made at the beginning of the year. A system update logged last night. The metro card scan at morning rush hour. An ATM withdrawal. The steady pulse detected by a smartwatch. From such fragments, constellations emerge—personal, data-driven, and ephemeral.

Is this our body in the virtual world? Does it represent who we are?

Every UUID is a kind of gamble—a wager on non-repetition, on the absence of any humanly recognizable pattern within randomness. And if, by cosmic coincidence, a UUID composed entirely of the same digit—say, a string of perfect "8"s—were to appear, might it correspond to a chosen one in the digital cosmos?

In this work, the artist does not generate UUIDs randomly. Instead, the viewer's whole body is sampled in real time and converted into sets of virtual three-dimensional coordinates—a constellation of points tracing posture, limb, and contour through space—which are then used to compute a series of UUIDs. The first set constructs a virtual "constellation," forming a digital identifier unique to that individual. The second activates a generative lottery: if one of these bodily points, through multiple layers of algorithmic translation, happens to produce a UUID consisting entirely of the digit "8," the viewer will receive a certificate verifying their identity as the unnamed chosen one of this virtual universe.
